Is the losers tail curse real in Valorant or is it all in your head?

As someone who’s been playing FPS games for a decade, it didn’t take me long to adjust to shooting Valorant. But some days it felt like a walk in the park: I dropped a 30th bomb without even breaking a sweat. Other days, I would spend the entire game looking at my teammates while fuming at the bottom of the scoreboard. Turns out I’m not alone. Many players think that Valorant’s matchmaking system is terribly inconsistent. Red carpet horror doesn’t escape even the best in the game, but why?

Valorant is pretty well optimized, so I can’t undo my bad days of annoying hackers, software bugs, or other glitches. But this exciting little thing called Losers Line making the rounds in the Valorant rumor mill could explain a lot. At first glance, it’s an old gaming patent that makes this infamous red carpet come out of nowhere. At this point, the losing streak seems to be the only explanation for my 13-game losing streak.

What causes red carpet sadness in Valorant?

Jonathan ‘EvrMoar’ Walker is a former competitive Valorant designer who developed the infamous underdog line multiple times in the past. But some gaps indicate that the losers line is real.

First, deliberately placing players in a specific group is not a far-fetched idea. This has been going on in games for a while now, with EA’s FIFA reportedly relying on DDA, for example. This system, officially known as Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment, manipulates matches in such a way that players keep coming back. Now, Valorant’s losing streak certainly convinces players to play “one more match,” but it also pushes them away.

EvrMoar stated that if Valorant had such a system, the developers would not hide it, because there is nothing particularly new in it. But a patent like DDA is simply not good for “business” and the health of gamers. This is why Valorant players losing huge seemingly endless streaks is either a coincidence or a reminder to go to Aimlabs.

“Data on various games and genres in the gaming industry indicates that fair play is a major reason players enjoy PvP. Why would we create a system that forces players to lose when we know it will force them to quit the game early? » Evr Moar said.

A dark-haired woman with a bob haircut and a gas mask walks towards the camera with a gun.

While all of that sounds reasonable, losing 13-15 matches in a row makes you wonder if the gameplay is flawed or if Riot is hiding something from the players. One possible explanation could be the stuck MMR, which the developers have explained multiple times.

It’s quite possible that Valorant’s matchmaking system doesn’t specifically group underdogs, but instead matches you up with those who are heavily stuck in your MMR pool during the same period. That’s why it can happen to good players too, because being too consistent can also cause problems.

For example, if your MMR is stuck at 1500, there will be fewer players stuck in the same rank for a long time than actively rank up. This way, the system can match you with those closest to your MMR on the ladder, instead of matching you with other players going through a similar losing streak.

But the question remains why players stuck in the MMR pool also go on a losing streak. It is a kind of paradox; those with a high MMR in the match will increase their variability and avoid ELO hell, leaving behind losers who can’t seem to get out of the same MMR. Now these losers coincide naturally due to the low variance.

This stagnation can also occur at high ranges. You keep getting 20 kills every game and now the Valorant system is boring. Nothing new is happening and he is convinced that you are a certified Ascendant. Now you’re up against other very stuck Initiates who don’t improve every day, resulting in a losing streak.

Combine stuck ELO with a bad mentality and frustration and you have the perfect recipe for a losing streak. If you trust EvrMoar’s explanation, it seems there can be no other logical conclusion to explain the frequent and infamous red carpets that plague Valorant.

While the losers queue issue in Valorant remains a mystery, it’s best to play it safe when deciding who or what to trust. Instead of blaming Riot, players can change what they control based on factual information.

My humble advice, though, is to stick to a tried-and-true method of cheating the system: don’t settle for too much of the same range. Instead, try to surprise the matchmaking algorithm by improving your game, breaking personal records, and adding some variation to your green playstyle in your ranked history palette.

If you’re also having a losing streak, consider mixing something up. try to run best agents in brave tier list depending on the current meta, change your weapon, load one of the best scopes in Valorant and above all, train more!
