If you’ve always wanted to play Half-Life Alyx, but lacked a VR setup or a powerful enough PC, well, your day has come, because a new mod for Valve’s excellent FPS game makes it possible to play Alyx without VR. and through a portable steam bridge. It’s not Half-Life 3 yet, but for those of us who have always wanted to continue the journey of Gordon Freeman and company. without buying an expensive VR setup, that’s ideal.
First, you’ll need a legal copy of Half-Life Alyx purchased through Steam. After that, the mod, aptly named Half-Life Alyx No VR, is extremely easy to install and even allows you to customize the controls on the Steam Deck.
It’s still in early access right now, and expect many updates to come, including adding more shooting modes and the actual Half-Life Alyx UI. However, as you can see in the images below, it works just like playing Half-Life 2, but with all the missions, story, and Alyx style.
You can currently play Alyx up to Chapter 7 and the rest of the game will be supported by the mod in future updates.
Using the best VR headsets is still the most reliable way to experience the latest Half-Life game, but if sky-high prices have kept you away from Alyx until now, or if you just want to play on the go, you can find a full-fledged mode. as well as simple installation instructions here.
