Firaxis announces the release date of the England Rules expansion for Civ 6, as the latest installment of the Civilization 6 Leader Pass aims to finish the 4X strategy game in March. The upcoming expansion is the sixth and final of the Leader Pass mini-packs and introduces two new leaders for England and one more for Norway.
The pack includes the English Queen Elizabeth I, the Varangian variant for Harald Hardrad of Norway, and the Age of Steam variant for the English Queen Victoria. Elizabeth’s return brings her back to the elusive list of characters who have appeared as leaders in every civilization game thus far, along with Alexander the Great, Mahatma Gandhi, Genghis Khan, Montezuma, and Shaka Zulu.
Elizabeth’s specialties likely reflect her past appearances, where she uses a careful and cautious approach that relies on economy and the strength of the English fleet to achieve diplomatic success. She usually prefers to befriend and protect neighboring city-states, but she is often reluctant to ally with other nations in her own right.
As leader options that already exist in Civ 6, Victoria and Harald are likely to offer a distinctive spin on their standard Gifts. Harald’s standard uniform focuses primarily on naval power, so the “Varangian” variant is likely to be much more terrain-focused, perhaps with lower recruitment costs to reflect the elite nature of the Guard Varangian.
Another primarily naval leader, Queen Victoria’s The Age of Steam variant will likely focus more on the great expansion of the Industrial Revolution in England and her empire. This means we’ll likely see performance-enhancing options with steam upgrades, though we may also see dedicated steamships at sea.
The release date for Civ 6 Rulers of England is March 29. The Rulers of England expansion as part of the Leader Pass is free to all players who own Civilization 6 Anthology Edition. It will also be available to anyone who has already purchased all of the content included in the Anthology Edition. We don’t know anything about the plans for Civ 6 at this time, although Firaxis recently confirmed that Civ 7 is in the works.
