Guardians are losing Destiny 2 emotes due to a bug, but Bungie is on it

The Destiny 2 emotes bug seems to be causing some players to lose the in-game character animations they have accumulated over the years in the popular FPS game. However, Bungie is aware of the apparent issue and is actively investigating it.

In a Reddit post titled “Turns Out… There’s a Gesture Limit,” Reddit user u/Its-DooZ pointed out that his friend’s gesture inventory screen appears to be limited to 512 gestures. Screenshots show the player appearing to lose green rarity emotes to make way for rarer emotes after going through 13 pages of inventory space in the UI. its-DooZ also suggested that the inventory space limit could be an issue for people with a lot of shaders. However, BNGHelp, Bungie’s official account, responded to the thread, saying that the team is actively investigating the issue.

While losing emotes may seem trivial to some, players often have to spend money to purchase them from the Eververse in-game store. Losing them can also mean losing the items they paid for. Also, some of the shaders in the game are incredibly rare, such as shaders that drop from certain quests or objectives, such as reset ranks in Destiny 2 Iron Banner. As a result, losing favorite shaders can be frustrating for some players, especially those interested in Destiny 2 mods.

Bungie has not confirmed how long it will take to fix this issue, but has also confirmed that it is In fact a problem, since Reddit posts about missing characters a few months ago turned out to be a hoax. However, players worried about losing emotes should keep an eye on their inventory for now. Guardians experiencing issues can report them to Bungie via the Bungie Support Forum.

While emotes are purely cosmetic and do not provide any in-game advantage, they are used as tools by players to communicate with each other without voice communication. For example, the Guardians used certain emotes as part of an in-game vigil in honor of Commander Zavala’s voice actor, Lance Reddick, who died suddenly over the weekend.
