Darkest Dungeon 2 DLC Will Pay Developers To “Keep Making Great Stuff”

The creators of Darkest Dungeon 2, the upcoming roguelike that has enjoyed significant early access success on the Epic Games Store thus far, will be taking the same approach to DLC as its 2016 namesake, which, according to the co-founders and directors of Red Hook, it will allow them to continue “doing cool stuff” with plans for free and paid updates to Darkest Dungeon 2 planned for the future.

Speaking exclusively to PCGamesN, live from the San Francisco showroom during this year’s Game Developers Conference (GDC), Red Hook co-founders and Darkest Dungeon 2 creative directors Chris Bourassa and Tyler Sigman explain why. the update plans for the macabre RPG are still “old”. school” and strives to provide the “quality” for which Red Hook is known.

“We don’t have a fight pass. There are no “red hook crystals”. We are representatives of the old school, explains Burassa. “We want to support the game and create free add-ons, as well as take the time to develop good paid DLC that affect and modify the main game and also add more content value. I feel that our studio has a good reputation in our community for providing value and we would like to maintain that.

“DLC pays the dev team to keep doing great stuff, that’s the main thing,” adds Sigman.

Darkest Dungeon 2 has been in Early Access on the Epic Games Store since October 2021, with a full release on Epic and Steam scheduled for May 8. Given plans to overhaul the relationship system, Bourassa describes the post-launch period as “a fun place.”

“If your game works well enough, it’s a fun place where you have that structure and that platform, and a lot of ideas that you may have left on the editing room floor, you can create an improved version and look for every opportunity. to grow and enrich the game”.

PCGamesN reports live from GDC and will continue to post exclusive interviews, news, and reveals, including development plans and post-launch plans for Darkest Dungeon 2.
