Do you want to know more about release date ghost of liberty? Dubbed a “spy thriller” by developer CD Projekt Red, the next expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 promises to take you to a whole new part of Night City. As V, a cyberpunk for hire, we will spy and fight against the army together with our new friend, FIA agent Solomon Reed, played by Idris Elba.

We first saw the expansion during The Game Awards 2022, but there’s still a lot we don’t know about this upcoming RPG addition. Based on CD Projekt Red’s previous games, there’s a good chance Phantom Liberty will redeem Cyberpunk 2077 after a rather shaky start, and the game could end up on our list of the best PC games by the end of the year. Based on the first trailers, here’s everything we know about Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty.

release date ghost of liberty

The release date of Phantom Liberty is scheduled for 2023.. As stated in the Cyberpunk 2077 DLC announcement from September 2022, the expansion is expected to arrive in 2023. Considering that’s a pretty long period of time, we probably shouldn’t expect Phantom Liberty in the early months of the year.

Phantom Liberty is only available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S players. Unlike Cyberpunk 2077, this expansion will not release on PS4 and Xbox One. Also, Phantom Liberty is being sold as downloadable content, not a free upgrade, so you’ll need to purchase it if you want to play it.

Phantom Freedom Trailers

In the first trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty, we hear V reiterate his promise to “faithfully serve the new United States of America,” suggesting that V is about to start a new job as a government agent. Or maybe V is privately hired by the mysterious woman shown at 0:28 who seems to be dictating the wish. With the aura of a “powerful person”, this mysterious woman is likely to become a high-ranking politician. As some Cyberpunk 2077 fans have speculated online, she could be none other than NUSA President Rosalind Myers.

Near the end of the trailer, we see a second mysterious woman standing over the stadium as the plane crashes. Judging by the red flicker effect, it’s likely that she’s an engram, a digital copy of the human mind.

Interestingly, not everyone on Team V seems to support the NUSA alliance. Near the end of the first Phantom Liberty trailer, a male voice warns V that swearing is a “bad idea.” Wait a minute… doesn’t that voice sound familiar to you? Yes it’s true; Keanu Reeves returns as our favorite rocker from Engram, Johnny Silverhand. In the second trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty, we hear him complain about politicians and the military as the camera zooms in on a colorful new area called Dogtown.

Reeves won’t be the only famous actor to appear in Phantom Liberty, as the second teaser also introduces us to Solomon Reed, the FIA agent played by Idris Elba. Since “FIA” probably stands for “Federal Intelligence Agency,” it’s safe to assume that Solomon is a professional secret agent. In this short preview, Solomon suggests that his goal is to bring peace. His way of working from him? Burn Dogtown to the ground.

Phantom Liberty setting and plot

The first trailer for Phantom Liberty shows a huge stadium, suggesting that at least some of the DLC takes place in the Pacific region, in the southwest corner of the Cyberpunk 2077 map. It also shows a greenhouse that could be the Biotechnica Apartments. Don’t expect too many familiar locales, as CD Projekt Red has promised that most of the Phantom Liberty DLC will take place in an entirely new part of Night City. Dogtown, as shown in the second trailer, will undoubtedly become a major location.

In terms of history, Militech seems to play an important role. Both trailers tease that the plane crash could trigger a purge in the Pacific. One of the passengers could have been a famous politician (Rosalind Myers?). Here’s a wild guess: V is forcibly recruited as an undercover agent by a rogue NUSA politician, then sent to find out who crashed that plane, but ends up trying to save Dogtown from carnage.

Ghost Freedom Game Mode

Little is known about the new gameplay elements of Phantom Liberty, but we should probably expect the discovery of a new arsenal of weapons and cyberware. Based on the three short action video sequence from the first teaser, featuring a new whip, shotgun and katana.

A CDPR spokesperson also confirmed that “from a budget standpoint, Phantom Liberty will be the biggest expansion in CDPR history”, but stated that “details regarding the game will be revealed at a later date”.

In what could be another preview of a new gameplay element, the second trailer shows Ripperdoc putting up a cybernetic V-facade. Since the DLC is themed around espionage, this could be a stage frame disguise. However, if the faceplate offers new abilities in any way, it could be something else.

News Ghost of Liberty

In their YouTube commentary, CD Projekt Red confirmed that Phantom Liberty is the only major expansion planned for Cyberpunk 2077. Again, if Phantom Liberty turns out to be a huge hit, you never know what will happen next.

The Phantom Liberty DLC adds a new radio station, Growl FM, dedicated to fan-made, cyberpunk-inspired music to the game.
