Ubisoft’s Anno 1800 is celebrating its console launch with a free week that’s also extended to PC gamers, meaning the city builder is temporarily a free-to-play PC game as well. However, if you want to take advantage of this offer, you’ll need to log out of Steam, as the offer only applies to the Ubisoft Connect and Epic Games Store versions.

Anno 1800, as its name suggests, puts you in command of civilization at the dawn of the industrial age. This means that there is great potential to explore technological innovation and the rapid expansion of the era. You’ll want to use diplomacy, trade routes, and maybe even military action to ensure your success at this turning point in history.

Those of you who prefer to play solo will find a campaign story mode, as well as customizable sandbox options with the potential for different AI opponents and randomly generated maps to keep things fresh. There are also cooperative or competitive online play options if you want to test your skills against other real players.

Anno 1800 will be free from March 16 to 23. You can play through the Epic Games Store or directly through Ubisoft Connect. If you want to keep playing after that, the game is currently 75% off on all platforms (including Steam) until March 23, and your progress can carry over from the free week.

If you decide to sign up, our Anno 1800 DLC guide should help you figure out which expansions are worth checking out. We have also selected some of the best Anno 1800 mods as well as other city building games for PC.
