We are still waiting for the Nvidia RTX 4060 release date announcement, but leaked photos of the GeForce graphics card are already making the rounds online. While the images don’t give away anything about the specs, they do show that they will potentially be much smaller than existing RTX 4000 cards.
If you’re on a budget and looking to upgrade your rig, chances are you’ve been waiting for the Nvidia RTX 4060 to enter the major graphics card race. At the moment, the cheapest Lovelace GPU available is the RTX 4070 Ti, but it can hardly be called average in terms of features and price. Rumors suggest that its unannounced sibling, the vanilla RTX 4070, will only cost $50 less, so some PC gamers will have to wait for the 4060 variant, which may cost less.
Fortunately, the shared photos KittenYukko Twitter suggests that an RTX 4060 Founder’s Edition is in the works, which we would call field fight. Interestingly, one source says that the card is actually an RTX 4060 Ti, even though we can see non-Ti text on the cover (via Videocardz). Of course, there’s a good chance the OP knows something we don’t, since the insides of the Ti could be hidden inside the proprietary casing.
It’s worth noting that there’s no way to confirm where leaked RTX 4060 images are legitimate, so have your usual salt handy. Although the photos are real, Nvidia has been known to like to change its mind on release plans, and even the source of the information doesn’t seem to understand what the SKU actually is.
However, we hope that the leak is a sign that a smaller and cheaper RTX 4000 graphics card is coming. Ideally, we’d like it to appear alongside the RTX 4070 on April 13, but it’s hard not to be nervous about the potential price of both.
If Nvidia completely abandons the idea of affordable graphics cards this generation, it could give AMD a chance to shine. Cards like the Radeon RX 7900 XT and XTX already have price issues, with the latest card being $200 cheaper. That said, we expect the Radeon RX 7800, 7700, and 7600 to continue their quest for affordability, which could eventually encourage Nvidia to follow suit.
