Developer Splash Damage is teaming up with two of the biggest names in FPS streaming to create a new open-world survival game currently known as Project Astrid. Michael “Shraud” Grzesik and Chris “Sakriel” Ball are best known for their achievements in games like CSGO, Valorant, Battlefield, DayZ, CoD Warzone, and PUBG Battlegrounds. Now they are turning to game development together with the developer of the classic multiplayer FPS Enemy Territory Quake Wars and the spin-off Gears Tactics.
“I want to make the best game in the world, that’s my goal,” former Counter-Strike pro Shroud said in Project Astrid’s announcement. Sakriel, one of Britain’s most popular Twitch streamers of all time, adds: “For the last few years, one of my dreams has been to get on Twitch and see people play the game I was a part of.”
The duo were joined by Splash Damage creative director Lance Winter to announce their new project, which Shroud says was started by a message from Sacriel asking if he was interested in acting together. “Instantly, I hit him with three words: ‘Yes, I’m down.’ The pair then approached Splash Damage, which Winter said he was already in the process of starting development on a new survival-focused open-world game. .
It looks like the main part of this pair will be honing that perfect feel that defines the best shooters. “I remember my first death in my first survival game,” Sakriel recalls enthusiastically, “because those games tell more stories than any other genre.” As two of the most recognizable names in FPS gaming, they certainly understand what makes a shooter click.
“For me, what makes Survival incredibly compelling is the pervasive sense of tension and drama,” Winter says, saying the team is excited to “do something really new in Survival.” Currently working on Transformers Reactivate, Splash Damage has a 20-year history from the beloved Wolfenstein spin-off Enemy Territory and its sequel Quake Wars, to working on Gears of War 4, Gears 5 and Halo The Master Chief Collection. , as well as the creation of a spin-off of the strategy game Gears Tactics.
The Astrid project is currently in pre-production, more details will be forthcoming. Meanwhile, Sakriel and Shroud are expected to discuss the news on their respective Twitch channels following the announcement.
