They no longer make them look like Prey. From the very era of classic PC FPS games like Doom 3, Half-Life 2, and FEAR, we have long regretted the cancellation of Prey 2 and looked forward to the return of Tommy Tawodi and the infamous Guardians. A spiritual successor to Bethesda and Arkane in 2017 helped ease the pain, but with Wolfenstein, Doom, and Quake still going strong through sequels and re-releases, it seems Prey has been left out of shooter history. So, give thanks to Prey Hi-Def, a recently updated mod project that completely transforms the HD shooter into a human head and is available to download now.
From high-polygon character models to 4K textures and enhanced shadows and lighting details, Prey Hi-Def gives the 2006 cult classic a similar look and feel to its current release. That chunky plastic look of id Tech 4 is pushed to the limit here – if you have a nostalgic soft spot for early 2000s PC visuals, Prey Hi-Def does a fantastic job of keeping the overall aesthetic, but with a big impact needed in high definition . Will there be another Prey game? With Arkane wrapping up Redfall and Bethesda closing in on Starfield’s already confirmed release date, it’s hard to imagine Tommy or Morgan Wu returning from 2017’s self-titled anytime soon. You can get Prey Hi-Def here.
