3-10-2023 Added confirmation from Bungie regarding the winners of the first Destiny 2 Root of Nightmares World raid race.
The Destiny 2 Root of Nightmares Lightfall Raid has begun and sees the Guardians face off against one of the most terrifying enemies in the history of Destiny 2’s vast lore.
Over a thousand raiders participated in the world’s first race to complete a Destiny 2 raid in competitive mode, increasing the difficulty of the event for the first 48 hours of the raid. The beautifully crafted raid features the voice of Nezarek, the last god of pain, urging players to search the witness’s pyramid ship for the essence.
Fireteam Hard in the Paint is the confirmed winner of the first world race, which is confirmed Destiny 2 Official Twitter Account. The team defeated Nezarek and completed the raid in approximately 2 hours and 24 minutes.
Each member of the winning team will receive a special Raid Belt that Bungie has made especially for the winners of the event. However, all players who complete the raid within the first 48 hours will receive a special emblem.
True to Bungie form, the raid is packed with challenging puzzle mechanics and platforming, making it a serious challenge for even the most elite of players. One area in particular features planet alignment, a mechanic players first saw in the Lightfall promo trailer. Many raid mechanics emphasize the interplay of light and dark.
Nezarek: The Torturer, a new enemy type for Lightfall with powerful attacks and the ability to take heavy damage. Players may recognize the name Nezarek from Plunder Season. Players have collected body parts of him hidden throughout the solar system to prevent Eramis from picking them up and using them against the Light. The Essence is also the namesake of weapons and equipment such as the Sin of Nezarek Warlock Exotic Helmet and the Whisper of Nezarek Exotic Glaive. The Graceful Tomb Fusion Bow Rifle also contains lore related to Nezarek.
Gathering the relics during the season of plunder, Mythrax combined them to create a tea that awakened Osiris from the slumber that had seized him after Savathun assumed his form and left him in exchange for Mara Sov’s promise to remove the worm. who possessed the witch queen. . . However, even then, the Guardians understood the danger of using the Witness disciple’s Dark forces to awaken Osiris.
Bungie subtly hinted that Nezarek could be the final boss of the raid. Players recently reported hearing Nezarek’s voice signals around Neomun when equipping certain Nezarek-related weapons.
Hundreds of thousands of viewers followed the raid via Twitch Rivals, as well as through the channels of individual Twitch streamers and YouTubers.
