Is the Steam platform compatible with Resident Evil 4 Remake?
Yes, Resident Evil 4 Remake is compatible with Steam Deck.. Although our testing is currently based on the Chainsaw demo and not the final build, we were unable to find any game-breaking issues or bugs. However, at this point, you may find it difficult to increase the frame rate on Valve’s laptop, as it doesn’t seem to be optimized for portable devices in terms of performance.
During Resident Evil 4 Steam Deck testing, we couldn’t hit 60fps on the PDA, and the frequent frame drops spoiled the mood a bit. The game is technically playable, but if you’re picky about performance, the experience might leave a bad taste in your mouth.
Oddly enough, enabling FSR 2.0 in both settings menus doesn’t change much in the Resident Evil 4 Remake demo, as the frame rate will still hover between 35-45fps. To make matters worse, this feature interferes with already-reduced handheld images, so we recommend turning it off when playing games handheld.
Switching to SteamOS 3.4.6 Preview in the Steam Deck settings menu will help alleviate any disastrous issues with the Resident Evil 4 Remake demo. However, we are still waiting for some quirks to be fixed, such as the mouse cursor chasing the center of the game screen and the incorrect aspect ratio. Again, most of the above issues won’t affect gameplay, but are annoying enough to mention.
The release date for Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 Remake is right around the corner, so we’re hoping to get a day-one patch that removes all of the standout quirks from the Steam Deck. Valve may also be giving the iconic horror game a shiny compatibility status badge on its store page, as Resident Evil Village appears as “Games” on a portable PC.
