With several popular Overwatch 2 characters receiving One Punch Man skins, such as Genji Genos, Mumen Ride Soldier 76, and Kiriko Terrible Tornado, developer Blizzard reached out to us if we can expect more IP crossovers for multiplayer, with the possibility of multiplayer maps. Overwatch 2. in the future.
Many One Punch Man characters appear in the game today as Overwatch 2 skins, as the Overwatch 2 One Punch Man crossover comes out. While this crossover is limited to Overwatch 2 skins, weapon charms, calling cards, and victory poses, Blizzard knows they can craft Overwatch 2 crossover cards as well, but that’s another beast.
“The tricky part about map intersections is that it takes a lot of work to create an Overwatch map, and we play test them to death, and even then they still have their issues,” says Dio Rogers, Overwatch art director. Overwatch 2, in press. interview (via Dexerto).
Rogers then touches on the multiple layers of map development in Overwatch 2, which sets it apart from a crossover like Overwatch 2 One Punch Man, where balance, competition, preparation, and visibility all play a part.
However, Rogers would love to see something like Naruto’s Hidden Leaf Village in Overwatch 2, so we can all dream, right? This is by no means a confirmation of the upcoming Overwatch 2 crossover or that we’ll be getting cards, but it sounds like it will be.
