Destiny 2 Lightfall’s sparrow entry contains a Morse coded message that likely comes from a familiar NPC, as experienced players of the popular FPS game have noticed. The character also appears in the game’s new story mission.
The Morse code message in the lore tab in Inside Line Exotic Sparrow translates to “STILL ALIVE INSIDE THE IDIOT NETWORK”. While the game doesn’t directly tell players who shared the post, the wording is reminiscent of a character who has been missing for over two years.
While new players may not be familiar with grumpy explorer Asher Mir, veteran players were excited to hear about his possible return to the space game. The post reflects what Usher would say, and his last known location prior to Lightfall was that he was submerged in a body of Vex radiolar fluid just before Io and several other celestial bodies disappeared from the game. Additionally, Asher was known to communicate previously in Morse code.
It is implied that Asher, whose hand became the Hand of the Vex after being captured long ago by the Vex’s enemies, survived the Red Vex. This network can be compared to the metaverse in that it can exist as an avatar or in a space between technology and the real world. The Vex themselves are living beings, though they also have a robotic form.
Asher’s form also appears in a new mission, Partition: Hard Reset, which is part of many new Season of Defiance activities and missions. It’s unclear what role she’ll play in the season’s story, but players shared their excitement about seeing Usher’s image again. Here’s a clip of him showing up on the mission.
The reference to “dumb children” may refer to the Inside Line logic entry, which tells a relatively mundane story about two children who communicate with each other via radio signals in Neomun. This suggests that Asher may be trying to communicate with them, but they are unaware of her message.
Players can receive Inside Line Exotic Sparrow as a reward for completing Season 20 of the game. Notably, the mission also contains areas where players must use their sparrows, leading some players to call for the return of the Sparrow Racing League. An event from the original Destiny game, the Sparrow Racing League, which pitted Guardians against each other in sparrow races, was a favorite among players.
