Apex Legends event is ‘full of repaints’, even Legacy

The new Respawn Apex Legends Imperial Guard collectible event is coming soon, and there’s definitely good news for the battle royale game: a new Mixtape playlist is coming, featuring some of our favorite ever-rotating limited-time modes. However, players are already venting their frustration with the event itself, which is “full of repaints” and includes a reimagined legacy for Wraith when the likes of Horizon and Fuse aren’t needed.

So the good news first. Mixtape is a new “permanent playlist that alternates between Team Deathmatch, Control, and Gun Run.” That’s great to hear, because Apex’s lighter mods are definitely some of the most popular, so having more regular access to them is welcome news. You’ll also be able to play modes in custom matches: you’ll need 12 players to play Team Deathmatch, or just six to play Control or Gun Run.

The Apex Legends Imperial Guard Collection event will take place from March 7-12. There are 24 items in the gift that can be obtained through event packs or crafted with Apex Coins or metal crafting. Respawn has also halved the price of Crafting Metal for this event as part of its fourth anniversary celebration, so things are getting easier.

Unlock all 24 event items and you will receive a new Ghost Family heirloom, Dawn of Hope. This kunai is a rework of the original Hope’s Dusk Heirloom, which was the first of the fancy melee cosmetics to hit the game in 2019. Respawn explains, “We’ve since developed the look of Relics in the game.” so he wants to spice up his kunai design with a new model full of crackling electricity.

While that’s good for the Wraith Network, it’s definitely another morsel for those still waiting for their own Apex Legends relics, Horizon and Fuse in particular. As an ardent fan of Dr. Mary Somers, I am counting the days as she gets closer and closer to being at the top of the list for the most anticipated heirloom since they arrived (currently owned by Crypto, 910 days old). However, Respawn teases that “the legend who fought for the legacy will get it later this season,” so there’s still a small ray of hope in my heart.

Meanwhile, comments on the official trailer on YouTube are visibly disappointed. “We’ve gotten to the point where we have an event full of repaints, including a family heirloom,” reads the top comment, which has nearly five thousand upvotes. Another note: “I love the part where they say they learned from the Peacekeeper repaint event and then post the full repaint event.”

Even popular Apex YouTuber Markus “Macro” chimes in with the comment “Wait. Are all skins recolorable? Even a relic?? WHAT???” until it’s enough It’s understandable, of course, that longtime Apex players are feeling a bit frustrated by the lack of genuine new skins. However, with the number of Apex Legends players on Steam reaching an all-time high, it’s at least a chance for new players to get their hands on a mod.
