The good news is that Desperate Measures is the eighth and final quest in the Destiny 2 Lightfall quest list, so you’re almost there. This is one of the more difficult quests in Destiny 2’s latest expansion, so don’t be surprised if it takes a bit of trial and error to complete. Just a quick warning, endgame spoilers ahead.
Destiny 2 Desperate Measures Walkthrough
The Desperate Measures quest in Destiny 2 was created to allow players to use the Strand subclass and fight. Therefore, you may run into additional problems if you try to accept it like any other subclass. However, it is entirely possible to end up with a subclass of your choosing.
The quest will take you at least half an hour, and that is if you can complete it without dying multiple times, as the fight against Calus can be quite difficult. The recommended power level for this mission is Destiny 2’s 1750 minimum cap, whether you’re playing the normal or legendary campaign. So make sure to complete and upgrade your gear to bring this fight up to a proper power level. The game will cap your power for this mission the same way it has throughout the Lightfall campaign, so don’t worry about maxing out your power after a certain level.
Desperate Measures Destiny 2 Quest Steps

- Head to the Irkalla complex.
- Barrier.
- Continue to the Irkalla complex.

- Arrival at the Irkalla complex.

Desperate Measures Mission Breakdown
Here are some step by step tips to complete the Desperate Measures quest.
Head to the Irkalla complex.
Get on your sparrow and walk the streets of Neomuna to your destination. Simple.
Barrier
Defeat the enemies blocking the barrier. In this case, a powerful machine gun, rocket launcher or grenade launcher is best.
Continue to the Irkalla complex.
Continue towards the Irkalla complex. When you get close to it, you’ll have the option to drop the Raid Banner, and you’ll need to upgrade your Guardian with Strand as shown. This is important when going to the next step.
Destroy anti-aircraft guns
The objective here is to destroy the anti-aircraft guns. Here you will see the Cabal drummers flying through the air. Use your Destiny 2 Strand subclass grappling hook to grab onto one of them, which will take you to the combat area. This fight can be tough but do your best to survive as respawn is limited. Arriving at the platform, you will see protected material. Defeating Shadow Guards and enemies will cause shields to drop, allowing you to destroy vehicles. You will then reach a higher platform and repeat the process with these coins, but you will also meet the torturer and have to deactivate the barrier by pressing a button.
Attach the turrets
Continue the mission and then defend the turrets by defeating the enemies.

Use the “untested weapons of Ishtar” to defeat the Goliath tanks.
Protect the entrance to the safe
Protect the entrance to the vault from enemy attacks, including more tanks. While at a high vantage point, by wearing a Nameless Ishtar Relic and using her Strand Grip, she can deal damage while avoiding the enemy attack. Keep in mind that you will have NPC allies to help you later in this battle. It can seem like a brutally long fight, including a final phase where you’ll encounter Tormentor enemies called the Nezarek Imprint, so be prepared.
