Destiny 2 Lightfall Calus boss fight – how to defeat Calus

Interesting how to beat calus boss in destiny 2 lightfall? You’re not alone. Both new players and seasoned Guardians have a hard time with The Deranged Witness’ Apprentice, as it requires great skill and dexterity whether you’re playing on Normal or Legendary difficulty. Fortunately, we can tell you exactly how to beat it. We’ll split the fight into two stages with tips and tactics for each, as well as recommendations for your weapon and build.

Fighting Calus in Destiny 2 Lightfall will require strong movement skills, powerful weapons, and a bit of luck. However, regardless of your skill level, you can take down the disgraced emperor with a few daring moves using the Destiny 2 Strand subclass in an FPS game. This is what you should do.

How to defeat the boss Calus in Destiny 2 Lightfall

Calus’ boss fight design clearly encourages him to use the Strand, as there are plenty of grappling spots in the arena. Throughout this battle, he takes advantage of cover and grappling abilities that will allow you to quickly change positions, both to attack from new angles and, above all, to avoid damage. You can also use the platforms at the edge of the arena to your advantage.

Like many bosses in Destiny 2, Calus has two distinct phases, the first of which has an immunity mechanic. He will need to activate this mechanic to make himself vulnerable to damage, but even after depleting his first full health bar, he will gain another one and keep fighting, this time with new moves.

Boss fight Calus, first phase

In both phases of Calus, you’ll have to control hordes of weaker enemies (also known as “add-ons”) while dealing damage to the boss. We suggest packing a useful additional clearing tool like a minigun or Witherhoard grenade launcher if you can do without your exotic, as well as something to deal single-target damage. The Gjallarhorn is useful with its fire and forget ability, and the splash damage can finish off some builds, killing Calus. Thunderlord’s powerful exotic machine gun can also do both in a pinch, though he risks being exposed to Calus’s fire while he’s shooting and ammo can be an issue. If you ever get overwhelmed by mobs, use Strand to reposition yourself and throw a grenade or rocket at them as you walk.

During the first phase of the fight, Calus will throw fireballs at you from time to time. Basically, his behavior is similar to that of a large taken centurion, so you can fight as if that’s what you’re up against. Once you deal enough damage to him, the Tormentors will appear and shield him from damage until you kill them. He knocks them down and it will remove the shield from him so you can continue to damage him.

Boss fight Calus, second phase

Once you’ve melted Calus’ first health bar, you may think the battle is over, but, as is often the case in Destiny, it’s just a red herring. Calus will respawn with full health on him, but now he will chase you with a sword, displaying behavior similar to Cabal Gladiator. His melee attacks are very strong and you must avoid them at all costs. Again, Strand claws are your friend. Occasionally he’ll put up a shield to protect himself, but that won’t make him invulnerable: strong weapons will counter him, so he’ll focus on staying alive, staying mobile, and dealing as much damage as possible.

If you can survive long enough and kill Calus before he kills you, you’ll end the battle and reveal the end of the Lightfall campaign. Congratulations! Here’s YouTuber ZaFrostPet doing it all by himself:

Destiny 2 Calus Story

Once a decadent Emperor of the Cabal, Calus was overthrown by his much more ascetic adoptive son Ghaul and sent into exile on the Leviathan, a colossal living spaceship. The Leviathan drifted towards the galactic fringes, where Calus first encountered the Dark Fleet and the Witness in deep space. Calus, a longtime enemy of the Light, first encountered Calus during the Leviathan Raid in the main game of Destiny 2, where we removed the robotic appearance from him. Since then, the Vanguard has partnered with her daughter, Empress Kayatl, and the Cabal, who remain loyal to her. Kayatl acknowledges the futility of further conflict with humanity when there are so many greater threats common to both species, and also acknowledges that, as the Witness’ chief disciple and herald, her deranged father actually separates from her.

Once you’ve defeated Calus, you’ll want to know what’s new in Destiny 2 Season 20, like all the Destiny 2 Lightfall Exotics or the latest in Darkroot, Destiny 2 Lightfall Raid. There’s so much going on in the latest downloadable content that it’s no surprise that the popular multiplayer game recently hit a new all-time high for Destiny 2 players on Steam.
