Number of players in Destiny 2 hit an all-time high on Steam with over 316,000 concurrent players as fans of the Bungie FPS game celebrated the release date of Lightfall, which introduces new Destiny 2 DLC and the start of Destiny 2 Season 20.

In the week leading up to the DLC’s release, Destiny 2 players on Steam increased dramatically, with Guardians seemingly logging in to train more, pack vital weapons, and earn higher ranks in Destiny 2 Guardian. Destiny 2 players on Steam have reached 84,000. On Sunday, February 26, it rose to 128,692 after a steady increase over the previous six days. And as of Tuesday, February 28, that number has risen to 316,750, and since day one Lightfall players around the world have been eager to play the latest installment in the Light vs. Darkness.

According to data from SteamDB, the number of views of the free game on Twitch was also increasing. On February 20, 16,354 people would have watched Destiny 2 on Twitch, and just a day later, 25,538 people. And as of February 28, 153,678 people were watching others stream their gameplay live on the Amazon-owned platform.

Focusing on the battle against the disgraced Emperor Calus working on behalf of the Witness, the DLC sends players to the previously unknown city of Neomun on Neptune, where the Guardians will first encounter the creatures known as Cloud Wanderers. The DLC also promises more challenging content, including an all-new campaign with the ability to play on Legendary difficulty, updates to two classic attacks, modifiers called Splashes and Threats for high-level content, and more.

The Lightfall DLC and Destiny Season 20 will also bring players a new Lightfall raid called The Root of Nightmares, new weekly quests, and some Lightfall Exotics. We’ll also have a new Destiny 2 Strand subclass, giving players a new power of darkness that Bungie says will allow Guardians to gain the upper hand in battle by altering space and time.
