‘Suicide Squad’ brings back ‘Batman Arkham’s worst villain’

You read that right, ahead of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s release later this year, Batman Arkham’s less successful villain appears to have been spotted in new footage from developer Rocksteady’s superhero game. Although we don’t know in what capacity they will appear, it is likely that they will in the new Suicide Squad game.

Given that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a sequel to the Batman Arkham games, with the late Kevin Conroy’s Batman among the returning DC characters, it’s perhaps not all that surprising to hear that. The Riddler is back in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, as his iconic nickname appears in the new trailer to give it away. You can see the Riddler symbol at 1:54 in the images below.

As NicholasJLevi pointed out in TwitterA glowing green question mark can be seen in the footage of the new Suicide Squad game, confirming the return of the Riddler, but not necessarily his Riddler trophies.

Now I say he is the least successful villain, but I think the Riddler’s trophies and mysteries in the Batman Arkham games were pretty good. It’s just that when you get to the final games, the Riddler expands on what is actually a mystery and Batman easily defeats him in each game.

On which planet does Riddler’s line “run this time trial in your car” in Batman Arkham Knight even remotely represent the real Riddle? The further we get from Arkham Asylum, the more people start to grab the straws, and I’m understandably hesitant to see this new DC Universe live stream turn Riddler into bonus content.

While this discussion of Riddler in a Suicide Squad game is a bit funny, the news of how Rocksteady’s new game will play out and what it means for its release has been met with much more skepticism.

The game’s Q&A page says “An internet connection is required to play Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League solo or online co-op” and it wouldn’t be a modern live service game if it didn’t. There was no battle pass, of course.

“Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will have a cosmetic-only Battle Pass system at launch for new outfits, emotes, and other items to customize playable characters,” the Q&A read. “Each Battle Pass will have free tiers available for free to all Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League players, as well as premium tiers that will be available through optional in-game purchase. All Battle Pass items will be cosmetics and will have no impact on gameplay.
