Black Matter, developer of Hell Let Loose, is leaving his beloved WWII game to start working on his “next project.” However, fans of multiplayer FPS on Steam need not panic as new updates for Hell Let Loose are on the way and a new team is being assembled to oversee the 2023 roadmap.

Since the release of Hell Let Loose in 2019, Black Matter has been constantly updating and improving the military shooter for the past three years – our Hell Let Loose review ranks it as one of the best multiplayer shooters on Steam. Now the studio is leaving Hell Let Loose to focus on a new project that hasn’t been announced yet.

“As a team, we want to say thank you for the incredible support this community has given us over the years of working on Hell Let Loose,” said Max Rea, CEO of Black Matter. “Essentially, Hell Let Loose took on a life of its own and is now much bigger than we imagined. It has been a privilege working with you to improve it and make it what it is today.

For now, publisher Team17 will oversee the development and maintenance of Hell Let Loose, though a new dedicated Hell Let Loose team is apparently in the works.

“We are ending the winter by saying goodbye to the Black Matter team as they prepare to move on to their next project,” says Team17. “Over the past few months we have been busy building a new Hell Let Loose studio with experienced developers who have worked on many AAA titles.

“The new team significantly increases our development resources, allowing us to prioritize improving quality of life across all platforms before releasing exciting new updates to the game.”

Team17 says that the Hell Let Loose 2023 roadmap will arrive in the “next few weeks” and that players can expect more regular updates and “clarity in our development processes.”

“The last twelve months have been bittersweet for us as a team,” says Ree. “We were thrilled to see our colleagues at Team17 take the reins with incredible enthusiasm and attention to detail, but we will also miss working on the title.

“We’re excited to join you on the battlefield now and in the future, not as developers, but ultimately as players, excited to know that the best days of Hell Let Loose are yet to come.”
