The new city-building game Big Ambitions is the perfect storm of classic GTA, Cities Skylines and House Flipper, all in one Early Access you won’t want to miss.
Drawing inspiration from Rockstar’s GTA: Chinatown Wars 2009, players venture into an ever-changing and expanding New York City with the goal of creating a large-scale commercial masterpiece.
“Rise from nothing and become the biggest entrepreneur in New York, start small businesses or slowly build huge corporations however you want,” reads the game’s official description on Steam, and that sentiment is reflected in the early access trailer.
Accompanied by a New Yorker, he is shown the narrator’s first gift shop, as well as his miserable apartment. We then see his fast food, which quickly became an “overnight success.” As his business grew, he remembers “sitting back and watching the money roll in” while still owning large swaths of the city.
With top-down camera and flashy animations from GTA: Chinatown Wars and the intricate money juggling from Cities: Skylines, Big Ambitions is the perfect mix of old and new. There’s even a bit of House Flipper, as you can customize the interior of your new office space to fit your larger vision.
As someone who spent their childhood wondering which Sims 4 mods would make my house the prettiest, the combination of customization and control certainly makes Big Ambition more appealing to me than the more control-intensive sims. Oh, and there’s a pink sports car, right?
Big Ambitions will launch on Steam as Early Access on March 10. It is a product of the simulation game development team Startup Company, which was released in April 2020 and received a “very positive” review on Steam. You can list it here and check out upcoming silver and gold DLCs that will give you access to several different features, including new cars (maybe even pink!)
