However, the developers of Endnight, creators of the upcoming horror game and beloved Steam wishlist game Sons of the Forest, are clearly “delighted” with the super-fast playback of the original Forest, which complements the survival simulation. in just 20 minutes. Akaya Kaito, also known as “Akaya”, holds several speed records for The Forest, beating multiplayer in 19 minutes 55 seconds on hard mode and 19 minutes 52 seconds in the “non-player” category where only players are not allowed. . To complete The Forest, you must find your missing son, who is being held in an underground laboratory hidden at the bottom of a huge funnel. Typically, most of the game is about collecting the necessary equipment to make it to the bottom of the funnel unscathed.
But it takes time. Akaya and the Endnight developers know a better way. Due to game design, landing on certain tilted objects will nullify all fall damage. Akaya simply jumps into the chasm, falling about 300 feet and landing safely on a sloping rock. It’s done.
“It’s always exciting to see someone interpret something you’ve been working on and put so much time and love into it,” says Greene. “Even when the game is 20 minutes long,” adds Hayley, saying that they’re “excited to see someone cross the critical path without using too many exploits and just playing.” You can see the full version and comments via IGN.
However, Akai’s masterpiece is the final fight against Megan, the young mutant you fight in The Forest’s underground laboratory. By using a single spear (they didn’t have time to assemble other weapons), Akaya exploits another idiosyncrasy in the design of the forest.
According to Greene, Megan registers and executes attacks based on an invisible square grid: if the player is in a square in front of her, she attacks from the front; if they are in the front right square, attack from the front right.
However, Akaya finds the perfect spot between the two grid squares, meaning Megan never knows where to point her tentacles. They throw the spear, run forward, rip it from Megan’s body, throw it back at her, and repeat the process until she drops dead.
Heading to the elevator to complete the game, Greene explains that there were “a lot of bugs” when Endnight first tried to get it working.
