Rainbow Six Year 8 Siege update finally eases reboot frustrations

Have you ever cornered a Rainbow Six Siege Lone Operator while they are reloading and trying to kill, only to have them turn around and blow your head off? Disappointing, isn’t it? However, the Rainbow Six Siege Year 8 Update finally fixes the game’s FPS reload system, along with some major changes to the compensator and muzzle brake.

One of the most annoying features of Rainbow Six is the reloading system. Players often fall into the trap of believing that since the enemy is on cooldown, they can’t cancel the animation and just attack you. At this point, canceling the animation is easy, you still get a full magazine of ammo, and can easily gain an advantage on the player who tried to attack you.

Year 8 Season 1 will change that as you will now be locked in a reload animation; according to Ubisoft, the store will not “magically return if you undo this animation.” If you get shot while reloading and run out of ammo, you’ll have one bullet left, but as Ubisoft says, “you only need one in a siege.”

It’s not only fairer, but also more in keeping with the spirit of the game. You have to be tactful with your reloads, because when you’re locked in an animation, locked in. Not only is it much more realistic, but it also adds another layer of complexity to the iconic tactical shooter.

Continuing like this, the muzzle brake is increased from 45% to 50% and the compensator is increased from 15% to 35%. Both changes are aimed at making Siege “more tactical, more focused, and more strategic than ever before.”

We hope all of this together makes the game a bit cleaner. With the new operator Brava joining the fray and the new MouseTrap anti-cheat system, Ubisoft is definitely making some big changes to Siege and I really hope they pay off.

In the meantime, though, there are plenty of multiplayer games you can try while you wait for the release of Year 8, or if you like something a little more intense, we’ve got a list of the best war games too.
