Rainbow Six Siege MouseTrap Anti-Cheat Targets Pesky Phishers

The new Rainbow Six Siege MouseTrap Anti-Cheat is another addition to the ever-growing list of FPS gaming defense systems. Specifically aimed at copycats, Ubisoft hopes MouseTrap will weed out some of the more annoying scammers out of R6.

Ubisoft states that “input spoofing is one of the biggest complaints we get from our community”, acknowledging that “it’s really unfair to play against these players when you’re at such a disadvantage”.

Spoofers fake your location with various tools that allow them to constantly change your IP address to bypass the game’s anti-cheat tools. This has been a constant problem for Rainbow Six and online gaming in general, but Ubisoft is confident they have something. which can solve this problem.

Enter MouseTrap, a new multiplayer anti-cheat system that helps determine “which players are faking and when they’re faking.” In particular, it is intended for those who use a mouse and keyboard to play games on the console.

Midway through the season, if the player is caught faking, MouseTrap will start “adding additional latency to its inputs”. Ubisoft further clarifies that latency will increase over multiple matches if the player continues to fake. To reduce this latency, all you need to do is remove your mouse and keyboard and return to your controller.

Ubisoft notes that it has worked with the internal accessibility team to ensure that only spoofers are affected while allowing other players to play in peace.

MouseTrap also comes with a new voice chat tracker that automatically mutes abusive players (although if you want to turn it on, you can). If you are caught getting angry in chat, you will receive a series of warnings followed by a punishment that will span multiple matches and likely result in a ban if you continue to insult.

Unfortunately, over the years, Siege has become somewhat synonymous with hacking and cheating: in the second half of 2022 there was an incident where hackers posted obscene images using the game’s ban feed. Hopefully MouseTrap and the new voice chat system will do the job given above. the anti-cheat systems have been a bit lackluster, though thankfully QB has worked a bit since being reactivated in December.
