The two mediums I love most in this world are the colony management game Dwarf Fortress and John Carpenter’s The Thing, a 1982 sci-fi horror film about an underground base in Antarctica in which Kurt Russell discovers true value. of friendship. Now, the holy modder has combined these two blessed properties with a Dwarf Fortress mod called The Parasyte-Thing.
As you can guess from the title, the mod is inspired by The Thing and Parasyte, a horror manga series that also features small alien organisms infiltrating people’s bodies and taking over them with gruesome results. Combine the necromancer, vampire and werewolf threats of Dwarf Fortress into one unpredictable and contagious foe and you have the parasitic creature.
With the mod enabled, you’ll find random parasites on the surface – modder GhostPutty says they spawn similarly to titans, but are usually the result of bites from infected parasites in frozen biomes or the third layer of caves.
When that happens, you’re in trouble – in the Dwarf Fortress community, it’s called “FUN”, always capitalized. GhostPutty worked on a mod with LJneko, who created extremely red and clunky artwork for those moments when FUN really comes into play: there are towering beasts with teeth growing where teeth shouldn’t be, dwarfs opening up to reveal plants and alien mouths with teeth. . similar structures (also with teeth).
GhostPutty says that there are several recipes that can be used to stop the beast from spreading or perhaps attract it; we believe that players can figure this out for themselves.
You can find Parasyte-Thing on the Steam Workshop for Dwarf Fortress, and to use it, just hit the green subscribe button. Launch Dwarf Fortress and activate the Parasyte-Thing mod during the world generation and you are ready to embark on a very intense expedition.
