With just over two months to go until Star Wars Jedi Survivor’s release date, EA gives us a look at some of the different droids that Cal Kestis, BD-1, and their comrades will be fighting against. The best Star Wars games of all time. With hints of familiar faces from the Star Wars prequels and animated series, including The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, you’ll find plenty of dangerous droids in Jedi Survivor.
Jedi Survivor is set five years after the events of Fallen Order and takes place halfway between the prequels and the original trilogy. In fact, Respawn says it’s set in the same year as the recent Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries. As such, the Empire still rounds up many droids with its soldiers in an effort to hunt down the last remnants of the Jedi Order.
In a chat with IGN, Respawn Entertainment Design Director Jason de Heras and Production Director Kasumi Shishido talk about some of the new enemies you’ll encounter on Cal’s travels. These include the B1 battle droids everyone’s favorite (Roger, Roger) and the beefiest B2 droids you’ll recognize in Attack of the Clones. Considering how fun the dialogue with enemies was in Fallen Order, we’re excited to hear what Respawn has in store this time around.
Of course, there will also be iconic rolling droidekas. “They have a bubble shield, they roll and include it in their melee, so you can’t permanently stun it,” de Heras told IGN. “It’s a classic IP so, you know, we should use this.”
Fans of the Clone Wars series will likely recognize the agile BX droids that use vibroswords and can take on Jedi one-on-one, as well as IG-100 Magna Guards. The latter are the elite bodyguards of General Grievous, and Heras promises that their unusual combat pace and ability to counter may thwart your strategy.
The KX Choke security droids, also seen in Rogue One, return from Fallen Order, though the Jedi Survivor variant of the Enforcer model dodges grappling hook attacks in favor of a deadly stun baton, making them more traditional foes. .
Finally, the team introduces the DT Guardian Droids, the great mascots of Star Wars Rebels and The Bad Batch. Shishido notes that fans of both series will know right away how dangerous they can be, explaining that Cal’s first encounter with one is a true “OMG” moment. They can spawn with a staff and rocket, hammer, or blaster, but whichever option you’re up against, they’re dangerous foes that will keep advancing even if they lose a limb.
