CheckPoint has published a report (via Ars Technica) that shows that cybercriminals have found a fairly easy way to bypass ChatGPT’s content moderation barriers to create malware and viruses to make a quick buck from it. For less than $6, you can have ChatGPT generate malicious code or a ton of convincing copy for phishing emails.

These hackers did this by using the OpenAI API to create custom bots on the popular messaging app Telegram that can access the ChatGPT version indefinitely through the app. The cybercriminals charge customers as little as $5.50 for every 100 requests and give potential customers examples of the harmful things they can do.
Other hackers have found a way to bypass ChatGPT security by creating a special script (again using the OpenAI API) that has been published on GitHub. This dark version of ChatGPT can generate a template for a phishing email impersonating a company and its bank, even with instructions on where to best place the phishing link in the email.
What’s even scarier is that you can use a chatbot to create malicious code or improve an existing one just by asking for it. Checkpoint has warned about how easy it is for those with no programming experience to create some pretty nasty malware, especially in previous versions of ChatGPT where restrictions on creating malicious content have only gotten tighter.
ChatGPT will also be integrated with Bing
OpenAI ChatGPT technology will be integrated into an upcoming update to Microsoft’s Bing search engine, which will introduce AI chat to provide more reliable and easier-to-understand answers to more open-ended questions. Today, the company is releasing a new version of its Edge browser with these new AI features built into the sidebar. The new interface is now available on Bing, but it’s still somewhat limited.
