Microsoft and 343 Industries’ Halo Infinite are currently in trouble. The multiplayer FPS series is reportedly going through a colossal shift in focus as it transitions to the Unreal Engine, and changes to the studio and direction of the series are seemingly continuing. However, you’ll be happy to know that Halo Infinite’s Forge will remain largely untouched as the mode’s main developer has addressed player concerns.
After massive layoffs at Xbox and Microsoft 343, gamers have been assured that they will stick with the Halo series, but it’s unclear what the actual future will look like. Thankfully, Halo Infinite Forge will apparently remain mostly intact, and the pipeline will remain the same, according to Michael “Forge Lord” Schorr, Forge lead designer on 343.
“The high level plan for Forge remains the same,” Schorr says in response to the player. “We will add new features and improve quality of life, fix bugs, and respond to player feedback. We’ve already talked about some of the upcoming Forge features (AI respawn, minigame mode, and dev map editing).”
So the multiplayer game creator, which launched a year after Halo Infinite’s original release, seems set to continue on its intended path. If the Halo series does move to the Unreal Engine, it’s not yet clear what will happen to Forge, but it looks like Xbox and Microsoft want it to continue to improve it. I wouldn’t be surprised if Forge ended up being the cornerstone of Halo Infinite.
runs statement It may not come as a total surprise, but it is certainly welcome. In a recent Halo Infinite survey, players were asked if they had “finished” the latest Halo installment as Xbox Research was looking for feedback on the game. Regardless of the outcome of that poll, I think Halo Infinite Forge will be able to support the series in the future as long as 343 have supported it in the past.
