Superfuse, an RPG that combines Diablo 2-style dungeon raiding and the comic-inspired style of Borderlands, has entered Early Access. Despite being in Early Access, the game is still in active development, though it seems the launch was a bit more difficult than developer Stitch Heads expected. As the studio rushes to release some initial fixes, its co-founder has personally written to fans to assure them that this “love letter to Diablo 2” will get the attention it needs.
I had a chance to try out Superfuse at a private demo at GDC last year and it’s a fun new twist on the dungeon crawler format. As you level up your character in this “cyberpunk aztec” world, you can create your skills: using the skill creation system, you could add and modify skill effects, add triggers, etc. It gives players almost unheard of control, and this space for experimentation is a lot of fun.
At the moment, however, it is a bit difficult to play. Stitch Heads has a list of known issues that it has been hard at work on since its Early Access launch on January 31, including glitches in the Solar System map, ability responses, missing power-up settings, and more. FOV and UI scale, inventory storage issues, etc.
“Superfuse is a love letter to Diablo 2,” Stitch Heads co-founder and creative director Tim Bijens wrote in a Steam update released on February 1. “It is our homage to the ARPGs that came before us because we fell in love with the genre. And I wanted to be a part of that.”
Bijens says his team reads player feedback and encourages them to continue to report bugs and offer suggestions. The studio is exploring ideas from the community such as controller support, endgame improvements, and adding variety to environments and enemies.
Patch 0.1.1 is out now and fixes many issues reported by players of all playable classes, with HUD and item tooltips, skill unlocks, audio, and more.
