The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 could be the GPU many PC developers have been waiting for, offering most of Team Green’s Lovelace architecture at a more affordable price. While the pixel pusher’s very existence has yet to be officially acknowledged by its creator, new details about its clock speeds may have emerged ahead of its release.

Despite the lack of an official announcement from Nvidia, it’s clear that preparations for the launch of the RTX 4070 as another contender for the best graphics card title are in full swing. We don’t yet know how much it will cost or how it will work, but it’s safe to say that mid-range champion Team Green will fall behind the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti on both counts.

According to matthew smithTechPowerUp GPU Database Editor, the RTX 4070 has a base clock of 1920 MHz and a base clock of 2475 MHz. The latter specification makes it 5% slower than its Ti counterpart, but 45% faster than its predecessor, the RTX 3070. For comparison, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 is around 47% faster than the RTX 3080 in this regard.

Unfortunately, these clock speed differences don’t give us a better idea of how the RTX 4070’s performance will compare to its contemporaries and older generation processors. Other factors such as the number of cores, memory bus width, and others also play a role in determining how many frames a GPU can deliver.

However, the prospect of a more affordable RTX 4000 graphics card is exciting. Personally, I’m intrigued to see Nvidia DLSS 3 Frame Generation running on a less powerful GPU, and it shouldn’t be long before we find out that RTX 4070 cases are already showing up in the wild.
