So did Sims Reddit user GamblerJolly, who shared the PSA on the game’s dedicated sub-reddit to let other players know about the feature. With all the effort players have put into capturing their Sims’ personalities through their outfits, custom phone cases are another great way to help them express themselves.
“I’ve been playing this lost game since it launched and just found out you can change the annoying skins on their phones,” exclaims GamblerJolly, “My Sims have been using gray phones for years when they could have custom ones. They and I are not alone either; one of the most popular responses says, “Of course I found out that way too,” while another user laughs, “I found out and forgot again.”
Some players note that longtime fans may have missed this option because it wasn’t there at launch. This feature was added in 2016 during the Together Together DLC, though you can use it regardless of what expansion packs you have. You also have the option to customize the background of your phone.
How to change the phone case and background in The Sims 4
When you pull out your phone in The Sims 4, you’ll see little buttons in the top corner. The first one allows you to adjust the volume of the phone, while the other two are for personalization. The button in the middle changes the background of your phone, while the button on the right allows you to choose a new phone case.
You’ll see the background change on the fly as you have to wait for your Sim to put their phone away before the phone case changes, although it’s helpful if they pull out their phone to reveal a new one when you switch. Some of the options come with additional layouts and layouts, so be sure to try them all!
It’s far from the best hidden customization option in The Sims 4, although some require certain packs or other DLC. The added umbrella stand in Seasons allows you to choose between different models when it comes to sheltering you from the rain (or from the sun if you’re a vampire).
