Game publisher Activision Blizzard revealed new details about the upcoming season homehis competitive card game.
Hearthstone’s competitive landscape will shrink due to fewer events and smaller prize pools. The 2023 season will also not feature Chinese players following the major cancellation of the Chinese distribution partnership between NetEase and Activision Blizzard.
Hearthstone enters its 10th season in 2023, making it one of the longest running competitive games available. There is a significant scaling effort going on this competitive season, though Blizzard hasn’t turned off the fork as they did with Heroes of the Storm esports in 2018.
The 2023 season will see the return of the World Championship and Battlegrounds: Lobby Legends.
Hearthstone is also returning to Twitch after a period of YouTube exclusivity. The deal between Activision Blizzard and YouTube ended in 2022: other Activision Blizzard leagues like the Call of Duty League also returned to Twitch in 2023. There will be no regional broadcasts of Hearthstone esports in 2023.
In an article posted on the official Hearthstone website, the developer said the goal for 2023 is to “balance the realities of the ever-changing production landscape” and added that they are scaling “the program based on its audience and finding the most direct path.” for players to compete. While the schedule for 2023 is smaller, this year is poised to be another exciting competitive year for Hearthstone.”
