The Division 2 update fixes Steam Deck launch issues

A new The Division 2 update has been released, bringing the game to the Steam Deck. Previously, the game didn’t work on Valve’s gaming PC, but now users can finally switch to multiplayer on a laptop.

As some of you know, The Division 2 recently returned to Steam and, at least at the time of writing, is available at a generous 70% off. However, like other Steam games, the 2019 Tom Clancy shooter came bundled with Easy Anti-Cheat software, which unfortunately meant Steam Deck users missed out on the action.

Fortunately, this little patch saves the day by allowing the game to be played on a portable power station. You can check the notes on the Steam page, but all it says is: “Fixed an issue that prevented the game from loading on the Steam Deck.”

So does it work now? As Gaming on Linux notes, the patch has “enabled Easy Anti-Cheat” and is now compatible with the Valve machine. However, the report warns users not to enable DirectX 12 as it will prevent the game from working.

Hopefully Valve will take what they’ve learned in the current build on your PC and make improvements to Steam Deck 2. For now, the company says it’s only interested in battery and display improvements for the successor, so here’s hoping they’ll compatibility is the same. on both devices.
