The Steam Deck might be the best gaming PC for mobile gamers, but Ayaneo is looking to steal the crown using AMD’s next-gen discrete graphics card. The company’s Next 2 handheld also features an 8-inch screen, but the entire body borrows the aesthetic of Valve’s portable powerhouse.
We’ll probably have to wait a bit for Steam Deck 2, and we’re already looking forward to a modular gaming PC. While Valve is probably cooking up something special, competitors like Ayaneo are hard at work creating a wearable with an edge, and the company’s latest announcement suggests it can do so using an actual GPU instead of an APU. .
Announced via Twitter, the Ayaneo Next 2 will apparently feature “new discrete graphics” and a Ryzen 7000 processor. Something like the upcoming Radeon RX 7600S will help the device compete with the best gaming laptops.
Ayaneo avoids naming a specific GPU, so we can consider it an unannounced AMD product. You can use the aforementioned RX 7600S, but since the chip requires 50 to 75 W, it might not be the best choice for a relatively slim PDA.
Of course, Ayaneo’s “announcement” is more of a warning than a reveal, and we’ll have to wait for the official reveal to find out more. However, it’s clear that the upcoming PDA will borrow some design cues from Valve, as it features square touchpads, a similar design and form factor.
