Wargaming, developer and publisher of the free online naval combat game World of Warships, is kicking off the new year with lots of content in Update 12.0. To celebrate the Lunar New Year, a new commemorative collection “Sa Zhenbin Era” is introduced in the game.
The January update also brings US battleships into early access, and the temporary battle type returns to the game. In addition, Japanese cruisers have been added to the development tree along with the new season of Ranked Battles and game balance changes.

Collect a commemorative Chinese commander.
The update kicks off with a series of in-game Lunar New Year celebrations. The first of these is the completion of the collection “The Age of Sa Zhenbin”, which details the work of the legendary Chinese admiral. Players will be able to collect items from a collection of assigned containers for various rewards, from a Day of Warships Premium account to the commander himself.
Containers to complete this collection can be obtained in a variety of ways, including combat missions, daily random packs, as well as by purchasing items in the Armory or the Premium Shop. In honor of the Year of the Rabbit, the Autumn Festival permanent camouflages for Dunkerque, Prinz Eugen, Kaga, and Warspite have been updated.
US hybrid battleships in early access
Three new battleships from Tier VIII to X are entering Early Access. Featuring squadrons of main battery artillery and long-range bombers, these American hybrids can be found for purchase in random and sequential packs and are waiting for players at the end of the Battle Pass.
Three weeks after its introduction, the Arsenal sector and special groups of combat missions will become available. For completing them, players will be rewarded with American Tokens, which can be exchanged for camouflages, flags, kits, credits, experience, and more! At the end of these combat missions – a special final reward – the Commander’s Statue of Liberty with a unique voice acting.

An improved version of the Airship Race temporary battle type from update 0.11.1, the escort airship pushes ships against each other in a 12v12 format, but is open to ships of all types from Tier VIII to X. In this format, each team follows an indestructible ship on a fixed route with the goal of either defeating the opposing team to the end of the route, or destroying all of their ships in the process.
Battles take place on a wide variety of maps, including North, Trident, Riposte, Estuary, and Isles of Ice, for players to test their skills and earn a host of special achievements and in-game Community Tokens.
Japanese cruisers and Ranked Battles
Rounding out the first update of 2023, Japanese cruisers are entering the tech tree, offering good camouflage and high-damage torpedoes. The game is also launching another season of 6v6 ranked battles for battleships, destroyers, cruisers, and aircraft carriers. See this link for full update information.
