The Lunar New Year sale is over, but Steam is still running a New Year of the Rabbit promotion. The Steam Chinese New Year Sale is a “minor” sale on Steam’s revamped calendar, and it’s a chance to try some great Chinese games that in many cases aren’t as well known in the West.
Head over to the Chinese New Year event page on Steam for a selection of new and upcoming games, offers, and new free demos to try. These recommendations were put together by some of Steam’s Chinese curators, and they include a number of games that have received little to no attention in Western markets and press.
If you like strategy games, Three Kingdoms: The Last Warlord is on sale for 70% off or $1.19/86p. This is a turn-based strategy/tactical game based on “Romans of the Three Kingdoms” chronicling the time around 190-280 AD when China was divided into the states of Wei, Shu and Wu. Various expansions and an official soundtrack they are Three Kingdoms: Last Warlord and they are all free.
Amazing Cultivation Simulator is on sale for 30% off, or $17.49 / £13.64 during the sale. This one takes inspiration from games like Rimworld and Dwarf Fortress and is intertwined with Taoist mythology and the magical system.
A free demo of Thriving City: Song is available, a management game where you play as the mayor of a Zhao Song dynasty city in AD 960 leading to disputes and conflicts between local factions.
