It’s the Year of the Rabbit and Overwatch 2’s Lunar New Year event has kicked off. Blizzard’s free-to-play FPS celebrates the occasion with three arcade fights, themed collectible skins, and Lijang Tower-style fireworks. The event will take place from January 17 to 31..
Three arcade fights: Capture the Flag, Capture the Flag and Bounty Hunter. Capture the Flag works in the traditional way: teams must work together to capture their opponent’s flag and return it to a friendly base while protecting their own flag from the opposing team.
The “Capture the Flag” attack works the same way, flags are placed closer to the center of the map.
Bounty Hunter is an open mode where a bounty is placed on the head of the first person to die. As long as they have a bounty, they will get bonus points for each kill. However, everyone on the map can see his location, and as soon as another player kills a player with a bounty on his head, the bounty goes to his killer.
The Lunar New Year event includes new rewards and challenges, including the Kkacha Echo Legendary skin, which is earned by completing four of the five available challenges. Players can also get the Legendary Masked Dancer skin and Lion’s Roar Victory Pose for Moira by watching two hours of Overwatch 2 streams on Twitch.
The only new skin introduced for this event is the epic Hu Tou Mao skin for Mei, which has a bright red theme and includes a festive winter hat with bunny ears on top, available for 1,000 Overwatch Coins. Some players are complaining on the Blizzard forums, but some old Lunar New Year skins are available in the shop at a discount, if that’s any consolation.
