A Steam Deck Fan Proves That The Sky Really Isn’t The Limit

Steam Deck is apparently so versatile that it can fly, as seen in the clip soaring through the clouds with a paramotor enthusiast. It might sound like an absurd idea and not entirely practical, but it’s at least a way to test Valve’s own claims about how handhelds perform at high altitudes.

Part of its appeal is the idea that you can take the Steam Deck anywhere, allowing you to play what is effectively a gaming PC on the go. But this portability is generally considered to be on a horizontal plane rather than a vertical one. As Valve makes plans for Steam Deck 2, who knows if even more sophisticated versatility is on the horizon.

On Reddit, user Bythion shared a bird’s-eye view photo of himself flying back and forth on a paramotor while still successfully holding on to his steam bridge. During this trip, they take out a device to capture the moment when they float through the clouds, clinging to the system with all their might as they gently fall to Earth.

According to the comments in the thread, Bythion reached 2500ft and due to the cold weather thick gloves were a must. That meant holding down Valve’s power plant was a bit more difficult, so it’s unlikely they’d be able to play while there. They said they would try again in the spring when the weather is warmer.

For those wondering, the official Steam Deck help page states that the device can be used at a maximum altitude of 3,500m, or around 11,400ft. Considering Bythion’s aerial feats converted to about 762 m, her cover was well below the recommended altitude threshold. What happens after this point is up for debate.

Of course, there’s very little reason to go that high in a gaming laptop PC. In fact, étant donné that the planes parcourent des dizaines de milliers de mètres, Valve ne veut probablemente pas que vous utilisiez le Deck lors de voyages à l’étranger, ce qui s’écarte de toute façon de ce que dit la page d ‘Help. With a better Steam Deck base and a comfortable sofa, it might be better to continue playing on the floor.
