The Valorant patch notes for update 6.0 are upon us as we gear up for the arrival of Valorant Episode 6, Act 1, which aims to kick off 2023 with a bang for Riot’s multiplayer FPS. The patch includes an overhaul of how weapon zooming works, updates to competitive ranking systems, and the introduction of the new Valorant Lotus map. The patch should appear with the release date for episode 6 act 1 on January 10.

The new map is a three zone map with a lot of rotation potential. Initially, it will only be available in the Lotus queue in Quick Play mode for the first week, after which it will move into the unranked and competitive map rotation as part of the Valorant 6.1 patch. Additionally, Split is back with several changes aimed at improving the health of attackers.

Omen’s E, Dark Cover, will now drop from nearby ground height when placed inside walls. Riot explains: “One-sided smoking is part of Valorant, but it’s hard to play against and we want it to be limited to intentional and understandable areas.” He says the team will be watching to see if this change will drastically alter Omen’s power levels.

Adjustments have been made to how weapon scaling works when using the zoom switch, which Riot says should mean “fewer instances of customer scaling conflict: waiter.” In theory, he has nothing to worry about: he’ll just get a smoother experience using the ADS and scopes if he prefers to zoom with the stick.

Riot notes that the changes to how rank works “should make rank gains and losses more consistent and reduce the impact of stomping on your rank.” Of course, there will be a ranking reset in the new episode, so you should expect the ranking to be a little lower than in the previous episode. However, your wins and losses should now be based more on simple win/loss rather than precise turn differentials, reducing the effect of those overwhelming one-sided matches.

You will now have the option to favor specific variants of weapon skins, which means you can only include some of them in your set of possible visual skins instead of the full set. When this system launches, all options will automatically select your existing favorite weapon skins, allowing you to change things from there if you wish.

Valorant 6.0 Patch Notes

game systems

  • Changed how weapons handle zoom input for ADS and scopes when using the zoom switch. There should now be fewer instances that can cause client-server conflicts under adverse network conditions such as packet loss and ping jitter. Additionally, zoom inputs when using the zoom switch can now be buffered earlier than before, and transitions with multiple zoom levels can be buffered at the same time.
  • Dark Omen shelter (E) placed inside walls now drops to the height of the nearby ground.

  • For all players: Rank wins and losses will be based a little more on win/loss and a little less on the exact difference in turns in the match.
  • For players whose ranks are far from their MMR: The increase in rating will depend more on individual results, not the round gap. You should also see your rank and MMR converge faster.

progress updates

  • Added the ability to favorite certain variants of your weapon skins (along with some UX/UI changes to better support this). Now when you add a certain option to your favorites, only your favorites will be listed.
