One thing that companies have taken away from 2020 is the need to get serious about webcams if we want to spend more time communicating with each other through the virtual world. The Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra is about as serious as it gets, being the first webcam with 4K resolution at 60fps without compression.
To be clear, this isn’t the first 4K/60fps webcam on the market. The Logitech Brio preceded it by almost five years, while the Elgato Facecam Pro launched in late 2022. What I like best, however, is the built-in privacy shutter, which is activated by rotating the case. It doesn’t replace the separate lid that came with earlier models that’s still in the box, but it’s a big improvement considering the lid is pretty easy to lose.
While the specs don’t give it away, its price of $299.99 indicates that it’s aimed squarely at users who want one of the best webcams around. After all, regular users will always rely on compression from Google Meet, Zoom, etc., and the only thing that stands in the way of streamers is their bitrate.
