The mind-bending themes of Alice in Wonderland are coming to Appalachia thanks to the Fallout 76 Theater Company, which is planning a Tarantino-inspired stage adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s 1865 novel. The Wasteland Theater Company is currently working on the script and art direction for a stage adaptation of the MMORPG, which they say will “open” next year.
While the show is still in the early stages of production, the Wasteland Theater Company has put together a mind-blowing trailer for their version of the play. It has psychedelic imagery, a Dick Dale-esque backing track, and some of the weird and wacky denizens of the Appalachian wilderness stand in for characters like the Queen of Hearts, the Cheshire Cat, and, of course, Alice herself.
Wasteland Theater Company they have hosted plays and other theatrical events in Fallout 76 for several years. Along with groups like Fallout Five-0 and the United Wastelanders Network, they have appeared in productions of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Sonnet Festival, and various other productions that were performed live in Fallout 76 and streamed on YouTube and Twitch. .
The band’s manager, Northern_Harvest, says it begins with a stage adaptation of Alice Gerstenberg’s 1915 book Carroll, but strives to incorporate its own Fallout history and lore.
How will Alice interact with the characters in the Fallout universe? For example, in Carroll, Alice meets Humpty Dumpty, Tweedles, Cheshire Cat,” Northern_Harvest tells us. “But our Alice would have grown up with Bottle and Cappie and Mr. Fuzzy and other characters from the Fallout universe.”
Naturally, Carroll’s Mad Hatter becomes the Radar Hatter in post-nuclear Appalachian Alice in the Wasteland.
“[There are] there are so many similarities between Carroll’s psychedelic Wonderland and Fallout’s grotesque Wasteland that we can explore, adapt and play with,” says Northern_Harvest.
The band hired Jonathan “Bramadew” Thomas, who played Romeo in an earlier Shakespeare production, to direct Alice in the Wasteland because he has real-world directing experience.
Fallout 76 seems to inspire creativity – another group released a trailer for Fallout 76 which debuted in November. Right now, you can log into Fallout 76 and take part in the Scorched Holiday event, which will last until January 2.
