When we first reviewed Ark Survival of the Fittest back in 2016, Battle Royale games were still pretty specific: they were the realm of modded game modes and custom Arma servers. Things have changed a lot since then, and six years later, Studio Wildcard’s entry into the genre now has a prototype version available on Steam with plenty of quality-of-life improvements and other updates.
The main idea of Survival of the Fittest is always the same: to be the last survivor(s) in a shrinking playground filled with crafting supplies and wild dinosaurs. However, among Battle Royales, it is unique in that you can collect dinosaur army to fight alongside you on your quest for a Jurassic version of Chicken Dinner.
The trailer here shows off some of the new features you’ll find in the Steam Prototype:
Loot, dinosaur taming, and armor have been redesigned; a new dynamic mini-map has appeared; The UI/UX has been improved and now includes a modern smart “ping” system; and you can even enter RTS mode to control your army of dinosaurs when you’ve had enough of them traveling the island with you.
The dinosaurs you tame can be turned into tokens, which you can use to quickly heal other dinosaurs if they get into trouble. all the trouble dinosaurs
It sounds like some pretty goofy, toothy fun, and you can join in right now, or try one of the other great dinosaur games available on PC in the waning days of 2022.
