Taking an abandoned beta version of Valve’s original FPS game and using old design documents and concepts to create a fully fledged shooter, the Half-Life 2 remake is set to get a new chapter that brings the famous Raising the Bar. project and gives us the opportunity to enjoy while we wait -and wait- for Half-Life 3.
If you’re unfamiliar with the original Raising the Bar mod, it began in 2012 using documents, art, concepts, and trivia from David Hodgson’s book of the same name, which chronicles the development of Half-Life 2 from its original versions. before the final release.
Initially, Half-Life 2 was very different from the shooter we know and love now, with different weapons, alternate versions of characters like Alyx and Eli, and City 17 that felt more like an American sci-fi dystopia: the Runner on. the blade.” – that the Eastern European metropolis of the game ended.
Raising the Bar was removed in 2016, but has since been picked up by a new modding team now working on the current Raising the Bar Redux. The next chapter of the ambitious mod, The Division 2, has a new trailer and should be released soon.
With new weapons, full voice acting, enemies and levels removed by Valve, and a full retelling of the original Half-Life 2 story, this is a complete remake of the excellent shooter as originally planned. Offering a fun tour of what could have been a darker Half-Life 2, where familiar faces play very different roles, you can play the Division 2 demo and the first chapter of Raising the Bar Redux on Mod DB.
Alternatively, you can try other old classic games or check out another Half-Life fan project that rebuilds the Gearbox Blue Shift plugin in the style of the HL1 Black Mesa remake. If not, find out what happened to Half-Life 3, which by now modders should finish before Valve has time.
