Anyone who has played 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will surely agree that protagonist Cal Kestis has no better sidekick than the BD-1 droid. In the first gameplay trailer that beckons Star Wars Jedi: Survivorbut introduced himself to us a man named Bode, who also gives the impression that he can help Cal a little. And now we better understand what kind of character it is.

Stig Asmussenthe game director of Respawn Entertainment, revealed in an interview with Game Informer that the mercenary Bode, whose full name is Bode Akuna, whom he portrayed Noshir Dalallike Cal’s brother. At least two men share a special bond, and even if they are not the same, they complement each other well.. While we don’t yet know what specific role Bode will play in the story, Asmussen confirmed that he it is an assistant controlled by artificial intelligence that helps during combat and while exploring the game world.. After all, some parts of the recently released trailer have already hinted at this.

In the trailer, we also got to see new ways to overcome obstacles in the environment. In the role of Cal Kestis, we will be able to tame various creatures.on which you can then ride, and a convenient novelty should also be a rope designed to climb and cover a greater distance between two points. The creators intend to offer us a broader approach to Metroidvania, where, for example, you can get to seemingly inaccessible places by chaining several different abilities and game options.

We can also look forward to a brand new planet that will be a central place to test abilities and explore the environment. However, Asmussen beckons to visit other places, and especially Expanded combat system, including a total of five full-fledged combat stances. Some of them are especially useful when fighting certain enemies, so it’s always worth analyzing opponents to see what works best against them.

And yes one of the stances involves the simultaneous use of a lightsaber and a blaster. While we didn’t see anything like it in the trailer, we did recognize firearms as part of Cal’s gear a few months ago when Hasbro introduced new Star Wars Jedi: Survivor-inspired action figures. “It really speaks to where we find Cal in this part of the story.” This was reported to Game Informer by Stig Asmussen. “Five years have passed since the release of the first game, and the dark times are still in full swing. He is an unconventional Jedi and has to do unconventional things. So something that would be looked down upon at the top of the Jedi Order? Cal understands that he will have to do his best.”

Asmussen also confirmed that we will be able to make full use of two lightsabers, i.e. one sword in each hand. In the first part, we were offered something like this only with separate special attacks related to one sword with two blades, but this time we have a full combat stance, thanks to which it should be possible to use two separate swords at will.

A custom stance has also been reserved for the sword, which, like Kylo Ren’s weapons from the Star Wars sequels, is equipped with an energy shield.. According to Asmussen, this mod offers a more confident approach as you can perform heavier and more powerful sword attacks. But you have to be careful, because with heavier weapons it can be more difficult to time the actions correctly. In any case, it seems that Respawn has taken quite a few steps forward in terms of the combat system.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor coming out 03/17/2023 on PC (Steam, EA App, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
