The Exotic Revision Zero quest in Destiny 2, which launched with the reboot this week, grants players who own the FPS game’s seasonal content access to a new Exotic Pulse Rifle. However, this weapon appears to be linked to another puzzle in the game, though the community is still working on putting together a larger puzzle.
The new Exotic Pulse Rifle fires shield-penetrating projectiles, making it powerful against locked champions. It is also a relatively long-range weapon. Players must complete an action round of Destiny 2 Season 19, Heist Battleground to receive a weapon mission called Operation Seraph’s Shield.
Operation Seraph Shield involves solving a series of puzzles, and completing it will grant you version zero and the ability to create one. While most crafting options remain locked for now, players will likely unlock more crafting options and weapon catalysts as the season progresses.
The weapon itself is part of a great mystery. There are currently many orbs scattered throughout the Destiny 2 universe that represent some form of technology. It appears that Revision Zero can shoot them, though it’s unclear if this is due to the power of their shield-piercing ability or an intrinsic aspect of the weapon itself. In the past, shooting puzzles like this has given Guardians access to special items, though it’s unclear if that’s the case here. At this point, people aren’t sure what their shot is doing. They could be part of a temporary reveal or part of a deeper puzzle that Bungie is waiting for players to discover, like a secret activity that will only unlock after players complete a series of hidden objectives.
Either way, this mystery is a welcome addition to the game following the controversy surrounding Destiny 2’s supposed lack of secrets over the past two seasons. Controversy erupted after the Destiny 2 Telesto event, which left players puzzled as to whether they should look to the seemingly random firing patterns and changing firing modes for deeper meaning.
Bungie recently responded to player feedback, suggesting that the team is actively uncovering secrets this season and that there will be more to come. Perhaps part of the reason for the lack of secrets in the last few months of the game is Bungie’s shift in focus towards Revision Zero mysteries.
Either way, we can expect players to start working together to unravel the mysteries of the Zero Edition, just as they have always worked together to unravel mysteries in the past. Perhaps current events will pave the way for a Destiny 2 Lightfall release date and story that promises to be a turning point in Destiny 2’s ongoing battle between light and dark.
