Mishy McDuff, founder of House of Blueberry, has been creating digital fashion for virtual worlds since 2012. We spoke with McDuff to find out more about the collection and her love of modding and creating things for virtual spaces.

McDuff may have founded one of the world’s most iconic virtual fashion houses, but a decade ago he was just solving a common problem. “I founded Blueberry in 2012 as a solo project in Second Life,” he explains. “It all started when I wanted to go to a virtual concert, but I couldn’t find anything cute for my avatar. In the end, I found a polka dot dress for myself, and soon many people were asking me to buy it! Since that day, Blueberry has become a true fashion house with over 20 million virtual items sold and nearly half a million customers across all platforms.
These virtual worlds are inhabited by millions of people from all walks of life and from all corners of the world. It goes without saying that many of these people care deeply about their avatar, a digital representation of themselves, or their wildest dreams.
The Sims and self-expression
Often these avatars are fantasy versions of ourselves, living lives of excitement, popularity, or contentment. The default costumed avatar is just another player, but one that perfectly matches his interests and desires is something we can become emotionally attached to. Sims, according to McDuff, are no different. “Gamers love to design their Sims in great detail, from clothing and accessories to tattoos and freckles.”
