Explanation of all the gods of Hades 2 – Kronos, Melina, Apollo and others

Like the first game, the gods in Hades 2 will be many (and let’s be honest, attractive) in number, and while Hades 2’s early access release date is still a long way off, we already know some gods and themes that Supergiant Games Sequel will address. . From Melinoe to Kronos, Apollo, Hekate, and the titular Hades, you’ll encounter a host of Greek mythological characters as you fight your way through the underworld in this roguelike game. So, on that note, here are all the gods we know about in Hades 2 and how they fit into the Greek myths.

The following is a partial list of all the gods in Hades 2, as Supergiant Games will likely reveal more over time before Early Access launches. It’s also worth noting that nothing we write below is set in stone for Hades 2.

Greek myths, including the stories and characters, have always been incredibly fluid and have been passed down orally for thousands of years, and Supergiant Games has made it their mission in the first game to take the myths and expand them into the characters in one modern and credible way. way, so expect twists on how we know.

melinoe

Melinoe is the brother of Zagreus and the daughter of Hades in Hades 2, as well as the game’s main character, and while her history in the ancient world is a bit hazy, an Orphic hymn written some 2,000 years ago tells us something about that. With limbs black on one side and white on the other, she was responsible for the appeasement offered to the ghosts of the dead.

The goddess’s black and white double limbs seem intended to signify her separation between the underworld and the heavenly world above. All we really know about Melinoe is that she is described as the daughter of Persephone and Hades (sometimes called a variant of Zeus), and she was closely associated with the ghosts of the dead. Some also think that Melinoe was an Orphic title for Hekate, which makes the next god of Hades 2 a bit confusing; in fact, something like the connections between Zagreus and Dionysus in Greek myth.

Hecate

If we take Hekate as a separate being from Melina, like the Super Giant from Hades 2 as a woman dressed in black, she is the goddess of magic, spells, the moon and the night. In Hades 2, it would appear that Hekate aids Melinoë in her quest against Kronos (who we will return to) by teaching him to practice sorcery and combat.

Shrines to Hecate were placed at the entrances of houses to ward off witchcraft and evil, according to many modern works such as Euripides and Aristophanes. We can also see connections to other early Hades gods, as Hecate helped Demeter find her daughter Persephone in myth after Hades kidnapped her.

The Homeric Hymn to Demeter also states that Hecate then acted as Persephone’s companion as she traveled to the underworld to spend a third of each leaven with Hades (the Greek myth is a bit confusing, don’t worry), with Hecate’s guidance often featured in the torch iconography, and in the trailer it has a bright green. I hope this connection between Persephone and Hekate is explored in Hades 2, because in the trailer, Hekate seems to have a close relationship with Melinoe.

chronos

Kronos appears to be the villain of the gods of Hades 2, shackled at the end of the trailer (potentially) and acting as the driving force behind the so-called “time itself” narrative.

God of time and king of the Titans, Cronos devoured his children, except Zeus, fearing a prophecy that he would be overthrown by his own son. Zeus then rescued the brothers from him and imprisoned Kronos, later freeing him and making him ruler of the Elysian Islands (which is actually the inspiration for the third floor of the original Hades), where the gods sent the hero after the death.

So the father of Zeus and Hades, the god of time, probably got a little upset about being imprisoned. While the circumstances may be different for the gods of Hades 2, I would venture to suggest that Hades’ own imprisonment is a form of revenge, and Kronos’s relationship over time potentially plays the role of a recurring element in the story. Hades 2 roguelike game: time travel. maybe?

Plus

We also see the Greek god Moros in the trailer, described as “Fate Incarnate.” The very god of destiny (who knew it), Moros will lead doomed mortals to death. Moros is also the son of Nyx, Zagreus’ adoptive mother in the original Hades, so it’s not surprising that Moros was looking to help Melinoe, since they were likely already in a relationship. Ares helped you activate the Doom effect in the first game, but it’s still unclear if Moros will join him.

Moros is inescapable in Greek mythology – he can’t die, and mortals try to transcend him and his fate in many stories – but he’s probably a lesser god in Hades 2, so it’s unclear how he’ll become part of the story .

Apollo

Apollo also makes a brief appearance, described as the “God of Light”. He is a god of many things (as many gods are) and Hades 2 seems to come with the sun and an interpretation of light.

The god, who appeared many times in ancient Greek culture, was often depicted with a lyre, quiver, bow, and raven. It appears that Supergiant is combining the bow and lyre to perform them, as Apollo is clearly holding a multi-stringed bow, somewhat mimicking the appearance of the lyre. His power as a god in Hades 2 will apparently be tied to light, though exactly how is unclear.

Justice

Which I’m sure is already giving fans of Lady Dimitrescu a hard time, Nemesis is described as “Vengeance Incarnate” in Hades 2. Goddess of revenge and retribution, Nemesis is basically good revenge. old-fashioned.

Although sometimes disputed, it is widely accepted that she is also the daughter of Nyx, which could further link Nemesis to the first Hades. One of the most famous myths that Nemesis is associated with is that of Narcissus, a handsome hunter who was terrible to all his fans, so Nemesis lured him into a pool where he fell in love with his own reflection and eventually died as only he could. do it. I can’t wait to look away (mood).

With many connections to Nyx of the gods and goddesses in Hades 2, the former consort of the gods from the first game is likely to play a role in the sequel, even if they don’t appear directly.

These are all of the Gods of Hades 2 we know of so far, but more are likely to come as Supergiant Games shares additional images and details about the highly anticipated roguelike game.
