Midnight Suns meets Slay the Spire in an anime roguelike deckbuilder

Marvel’s Midnight Suns has elements of strategy, meticulous planning, and precise execution, while Slay the Spire lets you build and customize your own decks and play traditional card game mechanics. Both are fantastic and are now included in a new roguelike anime, The Theseus Protocol, with its first beta on Steam at the end of December.

The game takes place in a dystopian sci-fi world called Mark City. The Theseus Protocol has a branching narrative that changes with each completed game. Using three characters, each with their own decks, you also have to strategically manage and deploy their individual weapons.

In addition to playing and using player cards, any cards you choose not to use can be recycled into weapon ammo, allowing you to use whatever you have in your deck for more complex multi-level combat and battle decisions.

Each character has their own narrative thread and you arrange your cards to form either an all out defense or a more stealthy and robust defense. You also need to dodge incoming attacks, so it’s essential to manage and use your deck carefully.

Developed by Starseeker Studio, The Theseus Protocol is coming to Steam Early Access on January 17. However, if you want to play it now, the first open beta will begin on December 20, allowing you to build and test your favorite decks before jumping into the game. If you like Slay the Spire, Midnight Suns, and of course XCOM, with a badge animated and sci-fi visual style, find The Theseus Protocol on Steam now.

You can also try some of the other best card games, or maybe the best bagels if you’re a glutton for punishment. As the year comes to a close, you can also look forward to the best games coming to PC in 2023.
