FFXIV patch 6.3 will once again put your player case at risk if you don’t log in. The FFXIV 6.3 update is scheduled for January and FFXIV Live Letter 75 will stop working entirely shortly before Christmas. However, Square Enix has announced that a nasty feature will be returning, requiring Final Fantasy 14 players to periodically log into the critically acclaimed MMORPG or destroy its casing.
The automatic demolition of FFXIV domains was put on hold in December 2021 with changes to the house layout thanks to a new lottery system and the ongoing pandemic given this initial decision. However, Square Enix states that “after careful consideration, we have decided to resume Auto Demolition with the release of patch 6.3.”
An exact release date and time for the patch has yet to be revealed, though director Naoki Yoshida said in an earlier live letter that fans can expect it to be “early January,” as confirmed in the announcement. The update also notes that “the timer may be stopped again if the need arises.”
So what does this mean for those of you who own houses and are worried about the timer? If you were home at any time after the timer stopped, your free business idle timer will be reset to the maximum duration. However, if you haven’t, after the release of patch 6.3, the timer will resume where it was on December 5, 2021, when the freeze occurred.
Players will receive an email notification if their free pet house is within ten days of automatic demolition or if they have not entered their property for at least thirty days. It should be noted that while you can play Final Fantasy 14 for free, you cannot join a free business with a free account. This means someone in your FC will need an active subscription to even log in and get into the house, effectively treating your subscription like a small mortgage.
With the start of FFXIV Starlight Celebration 2022 and the magnificent reindeer, there are already plenty of reasons to play ahead of the next update. The recently released FFXIV VR mod also offers a completely new look for Eorzea.
