While we already have a good look at The Witcher 3 update that will bring the popular RPG to the next generation, developer CD Projekt has now provided a full list of patch notes for version 4.0. The updates aren’t just limited to the graphics – as we’ve seen, the Witcher 3 team saw fit to add all the new features to this version, as well as some of the best Witcher 3 mods.
The Witcher 3 4.0 patch notes detail some of the community-specific changes that have been included in this version of the game, including HalkHogan’s reworked Draft HD, which we’ve been recommending for years. This edition also includes the Denroth HD Monster Reworked mod, immersive real-time cinematics by teiji25, Nitpicker’s Patch by chuckcash, and world map fixes by Terg500.
CD Projekt is also reporting that they have included elements of the Flash_in_the_flesh Full Combat Rebalance 3 mod, tweaking some mod changes and omitting others.
Several key characters including Geralt, Yennefer, Triss, Ciri and Eredin have been textured up to 4K so they look nice and sharp on one of the best gaming monitors around. All main characters also cast their own high resolution shadows outside of Fixed scenes and instances of hair cutting through clothing.
There are several new environmental updates, including the ominous “gray sky” weather type, new sky textures, vegetation and water texture improvements, mesh improvements, improved visuals, and global ambient illumination updates.
PC gamers will also have access to a new “Ultra+” preset that applies to background character count, shadow quality, grass density, texture quality, foliage visibility range, terrain quality, water quality and level of detail. If you are using one of the better graphics cards, you will also be able to use DLSS 3 to increase the frame rate.
The next-gen version of The Witcher 3 also supports cross-progression, so wherever you are in the game, you can immediately return to this new version, no matter what platform you were playing on before. You’ll need to log into your account to share save information across all platforms, and a My Rewards subscription includes certain in-game items: Nine-Tailed Fox Swords, West White Tiger Armor, Set of Dol Blathanna armor, and Roach card.
The new edition also includes a new side quest available in Velen, Dandelion’s alternate skin and Nilfgaardian armor set inspired by Netflix’s The Witcher, Chinese and Korean voiceovers, and Russian voiceover improvements.
